Sun, Sea & Sand

Ingredients for the perfect day,  Sun, sea and sand and just enough white fluffy clouds to give the perfect backdrop.

One of my favourite places to be is by the ocean,  it does my body, mind and soul so much good to just sit and enjoy the sounds, smell and energy of the ocean.

12 days under this southern sun at one of the most amazing and stunning beaches the east coast  has to offer has been the inspiration for my latest set of images which I have titled Sun, Sea & Sand...

Water, Oil & Light Assignment 3

A few weeks back in class we were given a topic to shoot called "cd cover".  I had a few ideas in my head, one of them being to shoot Water & Oil
Water & Oil can be a little unpredictable and a lot messy and because of the timeframe we have to shoot in class I decided to go with something that I had more control over and set up a still life composition.  You kinda know what you are getting with a still life.  (by the way,  turned out really nice).

Anyway this idea of shooting Water & Oil has always been in my head, so here I am with another assignment to do for my creative class and what better opportunity or motivation do I need to put my idea down on paper.

To create a Photo Mosaic using my own images and create an interesting background, then blend with another image so that the final image pops, kind of like a 3D image -  Thats the idea anyway

Black & White Conversion using Lightroom and or Photoshop

Colour images can be converted to Black and White  by  dragging the saturation slider all the way to the left however this is not always the best way to go about converting colour images to B&W, as certain colours contribute more than others to the overall luminance of the image.   The best way to achieve a good conversion is to alter the individual colour channels.

Post Modernism

What is post modernism?  This is a hard question to answer.

Traditional Photography focuses on subjects that are interesting, beautiful or unusual.  The word Banal is often used in relation to Post modern photography.  Ordinary or boring subjects challenge the viewer and asks the question, if the subject is boring is it still art?

Modernist Photography - A trend in Photography from roughly 1910 - 1950

Photography undergoes extraordinary changes in the early part of the twentieth century. Pictorialism which has dominated the medium for over fifty years is challenged by a new trend that calls for a more purist approach to photography, a plea for 'Straight Photography'.

Pictorialism an International Style & Aesthetic movement that dominated photography in the late 1800's and early 19th Century

PICTORIALISM, was an approach to photography that emphasised the beauty of the subject matter, its tonality and composition rather than the documentation of reality.
